Media Women Forum strongly condemns the revenged judicial sentence against the journalist Abdul Kareem AL-khaiwani

Media Women Forum strongly condemns the judicial sentence of the state Security court against the journalist Abdul Kareem AL-khaiwani, putting him in the jail for 6 years today. He was the accused No.10 in the case of Sana’a terrorist cell  which helps Al-hawthis in their war in northern Yemen.

MWF announces its surprise for such sentence which comes as a complete to the violation, annoyances and lawful cases that Al-khaiwani has suffered from in these late years. MWF condemns this sentence for it’s considers as more  political sentence than  a judicial.

MWF calls Arabic and International NGOs and the individuals, who are interested in Democracy, Human Rights and freedom of expression in Yemen, to practice widen pressures on Yemeni government to back off this revenged sentence against Al-khaiwani. MWF also calls local NGOs and Yemen civil society to immediate meeting to search how they can protect Al-khaiwani to put in jail again.

MWF calls the president Ali Abdullah Saleh to take care of such sentences and decisions which hurt Yemen reputation internally and externally. Especially after the report of Freedom House organization which is on freedom of expression in Yemen.  

This sentence also hurts the democratic legitimate whom the president boasts of it as one of his important achievements in Yemen.  MWF considers this sentence predicts worst future to democracy and freedom of expression in Yemen and we, in MWF, hopes from the president to stop implementing this sentence against Al-khaiwani who becomes an international and humane issue.

Numbers of national security detained Al-Khaiwani from his bad room on 20^th June 2007 then he was freed month a later for health circumstances with trading insurance. Then he was kidnapped from Alzobairi Street by security band, hitting him but security sources in Yemen described this news as Theatrical with no investigations. All these events were condemned by local and international organization such as American Islamic congress, the American congress itself and Amnesty international.
